San Diego Artist Network is operated by San Diego Artist Network, a California non-profit organization (“we,” “us,” “our”). This policy explains what information we collect through our website at sandiegoartistnetwork.com (the “Site”), how we use it, and the choices you have.
1. Information We Collect
Account information. When you register, we collect your name, email address, and password, and any other details you choose to add to your account.
Profile and listing content. Artists may add profile details, portfolio images, service descriptions, pricing, and location information. Businesses may add organization details and job postings. Anything you publish in a profile, portfolio, listing, job posting, or review is visible to visitors of the Site. Please do not include information in public content that you do not want to be public.
Location information. If you provide a location for a profile or listing, or use location-based search, we process that location data to show listings on maps and in search results. Listing locations you provide are displayed publicly as part of the listing.
Messages. Messages you send to other users through the Site are stored on our servers so we can deliver them and so both parties can access their conversation history. We do not read messages in the ordinary course, but we may review them when investigating reports of abuse, fraud, or violations of our Terms of Use.
Payment information. When you pay us, for example an artist membership fee, payment is processed through WooPayments, and we do not receive or store your full payment card number. We receive transaction details such as the item purchased, the amount, the date, and billing name and contact information, which we keep for record-keeping and support. WooPayments is operated by Automattic and processes card payments through Stripe, so your payment information is handled under Automattic’s privacy policy and Stripe’s privacy policy.
Hiring and payment between users. We do not process payments between artists and the people who hire them. When you arrange work, lessons, or a workshop through the Site, any payment is handled directly between you and the other person, outside the Site. We do not collect or store payment details, bank account information, or tax identification numbers for those arrangements.
Booking and availability information. Artists who offer scheduled services set their available times, and clients can request a specific date and time. We store those requests and confirmations so both parties can see their appointments and history.
Usage information and cookies. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers automatically collect information such as your IP address, browser type, device information, pages viewed, and how you arrived at the Site. We collect this through cookies and similar technologies. See Section 4 for details.
2. How We Use Information
We use the information we collect to:
– Operate the Site, including accounts, listings, search, maps, messaging, reviews, memberships, bookings, and membership payments.
– Connect artists with businesses and individuals looking to hire them, which is the purpose of our organization.
– Respond to questions and provide support.
– Send service emails, such as account notifications, membership and booking updates, and message alerts.
– Send updates about the Site and our community, which you can opt out of at any time.
– Understand how the Site is used so we can improve it.
– Promote the Site and our artists, including through advertising.
– Detect and prevent fraud, abuse, and violations of our Terms of Use.
– Comply with legal obligations.
3. How We Share Information
– With other users. Your public profile, listings, portfolios, job postings, and reviews are visible to anyone who visits the Site. When you transact or communicate with another user, they see the information needed for that interaction, such as your name and messages.
– With service providers. We use third parties to host the Site, process payments, send email, and provide analytics and advertising services. They receive only the information needed to perform their services. In particular, we use WooPayments (operated by Automattic, processing through Stripe) to process membership payments made to us. When you pay us, the processor handles your payment information under its own terms and privacy policy: Automattic’s privacy policy and Stripe’s privacy policy.
– With advertising and analytics partners. As described in Section 4, third-party analytics and advertising tools collect information on the Site through cookies and pixels. Under California law, this kind of disclosure may be considered “sharing” of personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising, and you can opt out as described in Section 6.
– For legal reasons. We may disclose information if required by law, legal process, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our users, the public, or our organization.
– In an organizational change. If our organization merges with or transfers the Site to another organization, user information may be transferred as part of that change. We will post notice on the Site if that happens.
4. Cookies, Analytics, and Advertising
We use cookies and similar technologies for three purposes:
– Essential cookies. keep you logged in and make the Site function. These cannot be disabled.
– Analytics. We use Google Analytics and similar tools to understand how visitors use the Site. These tools set cookies and collect usage data such as pages visited and approximate location. You can learn how Google uses this data at google.com/policies/privacy/partners and opt out with the Google Analytics opt-out browser add-on.
– Advertising pixels. We use advertising tools (such as pixels from ad platforms) to measure the effectiveness of our outreach and to reach people who may be interested in the Site. These tools may collect information about your visit and combine it with information the ad platform already has about you.
You can control cookies through your browser settings, and you can opt out of the sharing of your information for advertising as described in Section 6. Blocking some cookies may affect how the Site works.
We do not currently respond to “Do Not Track” browser signals, but we do honor opt-out preference signals as described in Section 6.
5. Data Retention
We keep your information for as long as your account is active and as long as needed for the purposes described in this policy. If you close your account, we delete or de-identify your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we need to keep it for legal, accounting, dispute resolution, or fraud prevention purposes. Content you posted publicly may remain visible if it was shared or copied by others, and copies may persist for a period in routine backups.
We keep records of membership payments and related transaction information for longer than your account may stay active, because tax, accounting, and financial reporting laws require it. These records are retained for the period required by applicable law even after you close your account.
6. Your Choices and Rights
– Access and update. You can view and edit your account and listing information by logging in.
– Delete. You can request deletion of your account and personal information by contacting us at tech@sandiegoartdirectory.com.
– Email preferences. You can opt out of non-essential emails using the unsubscribe link in those emails. We will still send essential service emails.
– Advertising opt-out. To opt out of the sharing of your information with advertising partners, [use the cookie preferences link on the Site / contact us at tech@sandiegoartdirectory.com. We also honor the Global Privacy Control browser signal as an opt-out of sharing.
– California residents. Depending on how the law applies to our organization, California residents may have rights to know, access, correct, and delete personal information, and to opt out of the sharing of personal information, without discrimination for exercising those rights. To make a request, contact us at tech@sandiegoartdirectory.com. We will verify your request and respond as required by law.
7. Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections to the Site. No system is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee the security of your information. Please use a strong, unique password for your account.
8. Children
The Site is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe someone under 18 has provided us personal information, contact us at tech@sandiegoartdirectory.com and we will delete it.
9. Visitors From Outside the United States
The Site is operated from the United States and intended for the San Diego community. If you access it from outside the U.S., your information will be processed in the U.S., where privacy laws may differ from those in your location.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. We will post the updated policy on the Site and update the effective date above. If changes are material, we will provide additional notice, such as an email or a notice on the Site.
